The evil spirits of Rob Meyer Design and Calabrese have united once again to bring you another killer shirt, celebrating the new release ‘Lust For Sacrilege’. The latest album, which is available now is heavier, darker and more sinister than ever before. In addition to the new album and merch, the brothers Calabrese have embarked on a huge tour http://www.calabreserock.com/tour/, which includes several international dates. If you haven’t seen them live, you’re truly missing out on horror rocks finest!
Love live horror, long live Calabrese!
One of my favorite things about being an illustrator (especially working in horror) is meeting others like-minded souls. Their passion and dedication to the genre is inspiring and more often than not, they happen to be some of the nicest people around. Kevin Spencer is one of those guys. While we’ve never met in person, I consider Kevin a good friend and as you’ll see, an incredible artist. Check out my interview with Kevin below.
Hey Kevin, thanks for taking the time to chat with us. First, tell us a bit about yourself.
I am 33 years old, married with a wonderful wife and kick-ass four and a half year old son and a few dogs. I hail from New Jersey and as we speak am packing up to move back after a 2 year hiatus in coastal North Carolina. I am a huge music, art and film fan as well as a huge Philadelphia Eagles fan.
I collect a lot of different things, but vinyl has never been one of them. Well Waxwork Records has been making it awfully hard for me to resist. And now with their upcoming release of Trick ‘r Treat, well, what can I say? They got me. This thing is simply stunning and it doesn’t hurt that Trick ‘r Treat is a modern classic and one of my all time favorites.
These special releases typically go pretty quick, so keep an eye out this coming week for details on how to get one for yourself!
It’s the most wonderful time of the year, Halloween! Join ICFTB all month as we take a look back at some of our favorite toy store creeps! First up, he’s big, he’s ugly, he… doesn’t do much at all really. It’s…
MATTEL’S GRE-GORY THE BIG BAD VAMPIRE BAT!
The late 70s saw a lot of weirdo toys. It seems that pretty much any crazy concept that came across a toy executives desk got the green light. Some toys it would seem, got made solely on gimmick alone. Gre-gory is certainly one of those toys.
With a thick rubber exterior, dark maroon color and no articulation, the big bad vampire bat doesn’t seem to have much going for him. But wait…add a translucent belly and a button that sent pulsating liquid “blood” through his organs and… well, he’s still pretty much a halloween novelty with slightly better marketing. Even so, Gre-Gory still holds a special place in our monster hearts.
I recently had an opportunity to team up with El Rey FX,to create a one-of-a-kind pedal for ‘Circuits To Cure Cancer’.
My pedal (along with a bunch of other incredible designs) were auctioned off to benefit St. Jude’s Childrens Research Hospital. I was honored to contribute my Creature pedal which was hand-painted in acrylics and wrapped in an actual pages of a 1968 issue of Famous Monsters Magazine!
A few months back, Calabrese contacted me and asked if I would design a shirt for their song ‘Ride With The Living Dead’, from the new album ‘Born With A Scorpions Touch’. The theme was 80’s skate culture meets horror rock… sign me up!
The design, which originally was going to be printed on a standard tee, ended up being printed on a 3/4 length sleeve jersey (the first baseball-style jersey that Calabrese has offered) and I have to say, it looks amazing. Check it out in their store now!
